HEALTH OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION (HOPE)

The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness.

FITNESS LIFE-STYLE DESIGN

The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to extend the acquisition of knowledge of physical fitness concepts, acquire knowledge of designing, implementing and evaluating a personal fitness program, and develop an individual optimal level of physical fitness.

WEIGHT TRAINING

The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire basic knowledge and skills in weight training that may be used in physical fitness pursuits today, as well as in later life. The course is designed to improve muscular strength, endurance, and to enhance body image.

TEAM SPORTS I

The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of team sports play,
develop skills in selected team sports, and to maintain and/or improve their personal fitness. 

AEROBICS

The purpose of this course is to develop an individual optimal level of cardiovascular fitness, and acquire knowledge of cardiovascular concepts and the significance of cardiovascular fitness on one’s health.

VOLLEYBALL

The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and skills in volleyball and maintain and/or improve health-related fitness.

CARE & PREVENTION OF ATHLETIC INJURIES

The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop knowledge of the anatomy and physiology   related   to athletic injuries and skills related to the nature, prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This course is taken during semester one and is a prerequisite for the course First Aid and Safety taken during semester two.

DRIVER EDUCATION/TRAFFIC SAFETY

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the highway transportation system and to strategies that will develop driving knowledge and skills related to today’s and tomorrow’s motorized society.  It will also provide and in-depth study of the scope and nature of accident problems and their solutions.  The content includes vehicle control and traffic procedure;  defensive strategies for driving;  natural laws and their application to driving;  energy efficient and safe enjoyable vehicle ownership;  physical and mental factors;  legal and moral obligation;  knowledge of motorcycle operations and interactions in the system;  Planning for safe travel to include map studies;  the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving.
