Positive Behavior Support

Orbit is the online tool tailored specifically for Gateway High School to manage our behavioral program. It can be used to assign demerits and positive behavior and instantly organizes and tallies the demerits students have received. In addition, Orbit assigns consequences when necessary and keeps printable records of all infractions and consequences throughout the school year. Click here to check you orbit account.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is the principle of reinforcing desired student behavior using rewards in order to increase the behavior. We plan to reinforce desired student behavior through the use of:

    • Admission to Special PBS Functions
    • First-in-Line to Lunch Passes
    • Various other rewards

  • Deans can change the consequence for an offense.
  • Individual demerits “expires” after 14 days, but a record remains in the student’s disciplinary history.
  • After the teachers assign demerits, the deans print and issue consequences from a queue.
There is a 48-hour grace period between issuance of a demerit and the scheduled detention.  Students are due to serve detention at the earliest possible opportunity following the grace period.
